There can be unexpected benefits to the lockdown and the ensuing work-from home phase, especially if ‘home’ happens to overlook a lush green valley and the windows offer a breathtaking view of nature. At least it does for Shashi Kiran Shetty, chairman, Allcargo Logistics. Shetty has been staying with his family at their property in Aamby Valley City, near Maharashtra’s Lonavala.
“Here, my home office isn’t just restricted to the four walls of my room. The quaint, peaceful surroundings let me pursue the business I am passionate about. And at the same time, I also get to enjoy quality time with my loved ones,” he says.
New space
The plan to shift base in March this year was a sudden one, so Shetty didn’t have the time to customise his home office. But given that it was already an ergonomic house, well-equipped with all facilities needed for work or relaxation, he didn’t have to do much. “When you’re at the helm of a global organisation, you have to be on the go, and I am always ready to work, wherever I may be. I haven’t brought home any physical object from my office, but using smart technology, I can fit my entire office into my pocket,” he says.
Peaceful productivity
Shetty says he’s happy with his home office the way it is. “The presence of natural beauty and wide, open spaces, the serene ambience, the mountains nearby — they have all made me extra productive, something you can’t experience in Mumbai,” he adds. It also helps to have his family nearby. “I spend my free time with them. I take breaks to interact with them, and I generally like having them around when I’m working. Thanks to the lockdown, and because of the efforts taken by all our frontline workers, people like us are lucky to have the evening tea with our families,” Shetty says
