Avashya Foundation undertakes a Tree Plantation drive in Karnataka
AVASHYA FOUNDATION UNDERTAKES TREE PLANTATION DRIVE UNDER MAITREE INITIATIVE INDIA CSR NEWS NETWORK
Avashya Foundation, the CSR arm of Allcargo Logistics flagged off a tree plantation drive under the foundation’s Maitree initiative. The drive is being carried out in association with NGOs like Light of life trust (LOLT), Nirmala Niket College of social work & Maharashtra state rural livelihood mission (MSRLM) in the rural areas of Maharashtra including Raigad, Palghar and their sub-districts.
The initiative was flagged off from Karjat in the presence of dignitaries like Mrs Kamal Damaniya, Project Director, LOLT; Kanhaiya Somane – Agriculture Instructor; Haribhau Vhola – Community Mobilisar and others associated with the foundations’ Maitree initiative on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017.
With an avowed objective of planting 1 million trees in 5 years, Maitree has reached out to a large number of families from tribal and underdeveloped regions in 2015 and 2016 and planted 239000 fruit bearing trees. As a continued endeavour, the initiative aims at planting approximately 141000 fruit bearing trees within a span of 20 days across 66 villages in Maharashtra.
The Avashya team will work together with over 1700 farmers across Karjat, Jawhar and Mokhada blocks in Raigad and Palghar over the next 20 days to accomplish this task. Under maitree, the foundation also works closely with the farmers of the region to inculcate conducive agricultural practices and promote inclusive community development. Over 40000 trees alone are planned for the Karjat block.
Badges of VANMITRA (friends of trees) were given to each and every beneficiary and beneficiaries would be ambassadors of conserving the environment at the village level.
Speaking on the launch, Dr Nilratan Shende Deputy General Manager, Allcargo Logistics said, “Global warming is a concerning environmental reality. We owe a lot to nature and have a responsibility towards future generations. Maitree project’s twin objective of conservation and livelihood promotion is a step towards addressing environment challenges in the form of global warming and alleviation of poverty by promoting supplementary income.”
